How to check the validity of a supplier’s FSC certificate?

The entity responsible for confirming the source of FSC® certified raw material is the owner of the certificate. If you sell FSC®-certified products, you are required to make sure that the raw material used in its production was obtained from a supplier with a valid FSC® certificate.

During the audit, the auditor will verify:

  1. How do you qualify suppliers of FSC® certified raw materials
  2. List of qualified suppliers
  3. You must check the validity of the supplier's FSC® certificate yourself.

Below we have described in a few steps how to check and whether a supplier is FSC® certified,

Step 1: Go to https://info.fsc.org/

Step 2: From the menu on the left, select Certificate search.

Step 3: There are two ways to search for a supplier:

A) Name Search:

In the Name field, enter the name or part of the supplier's name.

Note the typos!

It happens that the name of the supplier in the database is given in transcription or translated into English. If a search by name does not work, try by code (way B).

B) Search by Code (Certificate Code):

In the Certificate Code fields, use the drop-down menu and enter the certificate code. If you don't know it, ask the provider to provide you with the certificate number.

Attention !

When the certification body changes, the certificate code (Certyfikacte Code) also changes.

If, when checking the validity of the certificate of your regular supplier, a search by code does not yield results, he has probably changed the certification body.

Step 4: Click Search:

Step 5: When the new page opens, click on the certificate or license code.

Step 6: This will open a page with the entire scope of the certificate click: Print (top right).

Now you can print or save the certificate as a pdf.

Remember to pay attention to:

  • Certificate validity

Only valid status indicates a valid and active certificate.

Statuses suspended, terminated means, certificate invalid!

  • Scope of the certificate

Products (product name) and tree species (species).

If the product or species in question is not in scope, the supplier

cannot sell a product with FSC® certification
