Mass Balance – a balance sheet accounting system related to the flow of RSPO certified products, i.e. purchase of RSPO certified raw material and sale of RSPO certified finished product.
RSPO Certified Supplier – a certified producer or licensed trader/distributor.
RSPO Certified Producer – a producer with a valid RSPO certificate.
RSPO Certified Product – Any product containing CPO or PKO appropriately sourced through the RSPO supply chain models of “Identity Preserved” (IP), “Segregated” (SG) or “Mass Balance” (MB).
RSPO MB certified finished product – a product sold as certified in the MB model. The manufacturer’s certificate number must appear in the product’s transport documents, and the name must be accompanied by an extension specifying the model, i.e. MB.
CPO – Crude Palm Oil – palm oil and the use of palm oil.
RSPO Licensed Trader/Distributor – a company that is a member of RSPO and has a license to sell RSPO certified products. When selling RSPO certified products, a licensed distributor/trader must include the product manufacturer’s certificate number and the appropriate supply chain model on sales documents.
IP Model – The entire RSPO product can be traced to a single mill. Requires complete isolation of palm oil materials from a given mill at every stage of processing and transportation
SG Model – All RSPO product comes from 100% certified sources. Sustainable palm oil from different certified mills is physically separated from non-certified palm oil throughout the supply chain.
Mass balance (MB) model – A model in which the amount of purchased palm oil (CPO) or palm kernel oil (PKO) contained in RSPO certified raw materials cannot be less than the amount of sold CPO or PKO contained in RSPO certified finished products. Certified CPO or PKO is mixed with non-certified CPO or PKO throughout the supply chain. When PKO and CPO are used in production, two separate mass balances must be maintained.
PKO – Palm Kernel Oil – palm kernel oil
RSPO – Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil – An international non-profit membership organization working to improve the sustainability of global production
RSPO RULES ON MARKET COMMUNICATIONS AND CLAIMS (Revised in January 2019) – a document containing requirements for the use of the RSPO trademark.
RSPO Supply Chain Certification Standard – a document specifying the minimum requirements for RSPO certified organizations in the supply chain of RSPO certified products.
RSPO certified raw materials – raw materials from a certified supplier.
Finished Goods – Products that will not be further processed and/or repackaged and/or re-labelled before sale to the final consumer.
RSPO Trademark (Trademark) – A registered trademark consisting of a rounded palm tree, the words: Certified Sustainable Palm Oil RSPO, the ™ symbol and a valid license number. This mark is used to mark RSPO certified product packaging or marketing communications.
